Spike in Car Theft!

Recently our local Police asked CNS to send messages to a couple of neighbourhoods that are experiencing a spike in car tampering and theft.  Police and our Community Patrol are working hard to combat this at present.

This is an excerpt from the message:

Cambridge is currently experiencing an increase in attempted and actual theft of motor vehicles.

If you have CCTV cameras, please review the footage regularly and report suspicious activity, especially persons moving around in the early hours of the morning.  If you don’t already have a CCTV camera installed, please consider investing in one as a way to help keep your property and our community safe.

With these types of crime, gaining CCTV of offenders is so valuable. Even when facial features are indistinct, footage can help us narrow down offending time frames and compare other identifying characteristics of offenders, which all assist our investigation.  If you see suspicious activity overnight or offending as it is happening, of course, dial 111 at the time to allow officers to respond.  To pass on information where there has been a time delay of a few hours or more, report to 105.police.govt.nz.

One offender or group of offenders will be responsible for any number of crimes. Together we can get the evidence to identify and stop them.

Please take care to remove any valuables from your car and double check that it is locked.  More tips to keep your vehicle secure here

Neighbourhood Support can work with your neighbours to make your street a less attractive area for criminals to visit; just contact us on 021 2669653 or email info@safercambridge.co.nz.
