Crime chat with Fielday's Neighbours

Rural Neighbourhood Meet & Greet

Our recent visit to the Fielday’s Neighbours meeting was a welcome chance to reconnect with the Mystery Creek and Tamahere communities and to talk about the importance of strong neighbourhood connections and practical steps to reduce crime. The gathering had its usual warm, community‑minded feel, and it was great to see so many familiar faces again.

Reconnecting with local neighbours

Fieldays has a long-standing reputation for bringing people together, and this meeting was no exception. Conversations flowed easily, and there was a clear sense of shared purpose as we talked about what it means to look out for one another.

Focusing on connection and safety

Our discussions centred on how well‑connected neighbourhoods are safer neighbourhoods. We explored simple ways neighbours can stay in touch, share information, and support each other when something doesn’t feel right. Many people shared their own experiences, which added real local insight and made the conversation even more valuable.

Taking action beyond the meeting

One of the most encouraging outcomes was the people who reached out afterward wanting to strengthen their own neighbourhood networks. We’ve already been in touch with some, to help them build or refresh their local connections, and it’s clear there’s strong motivation to keep that momentum going.

Appreciating the Fieldays Neighbours initiative

We’re genuinely thankful that Fieldays continues to bring its neighbours together regularly. The strong community turnout shows how much these meetings are valued, and the effort put into hosting them is truly appreciated. Every gathering helps strengthen local ties and reinforces the shared commitment to keeping our communities safe.

If there are other neighbourhood groups in the area looking to build stronger connections, or to reduce crime in their areas, we are happy to help you shape a message or plan your next community conversation.
