Stronger When Working Together: CNS at Police Training Day

At the recent Cambridge Police Training Day, we were pleased to present the work of Safer Cambridge Trust (Neighbourhood Support & Community Patrol), highlighting the vital role we play in fostering safer, more connected, and resilient communities. Our session aimed to ensure that both new and experienced officers understand the breadth and depth of our work, and the powerful impact of our partnerships with Police and other emergency services.

The Safer Cambridge Trust has been a cornerstone of community wellbeing for over 15 years. Despite the challenges of operating solely through grants and donations, our Trust has remained steadfast in its mission. We are driven by three core objectives: Connection, Safety, and Resilience for Neighbourhood Communities. To bring these values to life, we began our session with an engaging, active exercise that got everyone on their feet - demonstrating the power of human connection in real time. This set the tone for a lively and interactive presentation. We shared how our work helps build strong, trusting relationships within neighbourhoods. By encouraging collaboration and communication, we empower communities to take collective responsibility for their safety and preparedness. Whether it’s crime prevention or emergency readiness, our support helps neighbourhoods become proactive and united.

A key message for new staff was the importance of the supportive and cooperative partnership between Neighbourhood Support, Community Patrols, and the Police. Together, we form a network of vigilance and care that strengthens the fabric of our communities.

We also explored the concept of neighbourhoods becoming vigilant guardians of their streets - a proven deterrent to crime. Through discussion and group activities, we examined what makes a neighbourhood inviting to criminals and how small changes can make a big difference. We plan to bring these ideas to our neighbourhood meetings.

The session was not only informative but also filled with laughter and camaraderie, reflecting the spirit of partnership and community we strive to cultivate every day.
