A Street That Came Together
“What began with one neighbour’s effort to bring people together has helped encourage a stronger sense of connection.”
After deciding it was time for everyone to get to know one another, a local Clare Street resident took it upon herself to visit each home personally. Her friendly invitations were met with enthusiasm, and soon the idea of a street block meeting was underway. With numbers growing, she reached out to the local Football Club, which generously offered its clubrooms as a venue; a gesture that made it possible for everyone to gather comfortably in one place.
The turnout exceeded expectations. Neighbours who had lived side‑by‑side for years found themselves chatting, laughing, and discovering shared interests. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and many commented on how good it felt to finally put faces to names.
The evening opened the door to practical conversations about how neighbours could take guardianship of their street. People talked about the value of simply being visible outside, and how high fences can help — or sometimes hinder — awareness. Neighbourhood Support and camera‑signage were highlighted as ways to signal that residents look out for one another and that unwanted behaviour won’t go unnoticed. Ideas flowed easily about staying connected, supporting each other, and strengthening local safety.
By the end of the night, it was clear this was only the beginning. Plans are already underway for a follow‑up meeting, with neighbours keen to work together on emergency preparedness and continue building a safer, stronger, more connected street.
Thanks to our local Football Club for being a great neighbour and welcoming host!
