Celebrating a Safer Decade
A decade of dedication — that’s what the Safer Cambridge Community Patrol is celebrating this year. What began as a small group of committed locals has grown into a trusted, highly active volunteer patrol that now supports Cambridge 6 to 7 nights every week, keeping an eye on the wellbeing of our neighbourhoods and offering an extra layer of safety for residents and businesses alike.
The recent Cambridge news article explains that the Patrol’s success has always rested on community support, and one partnership stands out. C&R Developments has generously provided the Patrol’s vehicle, along with fuel and servicing, ensuring volunteers can stay mobile, visible, and effective. Their long‑term commitment reflects the wider community’s belief in the value of the Patrol’s work.
One of the Patrol’s greatest strengths is its people. Volunteers come from all walks of life — retirees, shift workers, business owners, students, long‑time and new locals — all united by a desire to make Cambridge safer. Their nightly presence around town is a quiet but powerful reminder of what community spirit looks like in action.
Local Police say the Patrol plays a meaningful role in community safety. Patrollers:
Pay specific attention to advised crime hot spots
Look out for suspicious behaviour, insecure premises, and disorder incidents
Assist Police with observation duties during missing‑person searches
Keep watch for offending vehicles and individuals
This partnership ensures Police receive timely information from trusted eyes on the street, helping them respond more effectively to emerging issues.
The Community Patrol operates under the auspices of the Safer Cambridge Trust and works alongside Cambridge Neighbourhood Support, forming a coordinated network focused on prevention, awareness, and community wellbeing. Together, these organisations help ensure Cambridge remains a safe, connected, and resilient town.
